Family Session

This family recently had their first session with me. So what does that look like when you book me for the first time? My initial goal is to understand what kind of session you’re wanting. Did you see a gallery of mine that you loved? A location you liked? I love to chat it up and learn more through email, text, or a phone chat if my new client is comfy with that. I also send a questionnaire just to learn a bit about your family to prepare for our big day together!

For this session we met at Chapman Mountain, one of my favorite, dreamy wooded spots. The mama said, “this is making all of my woodland fairy dreams come true!” It really is a beautiful, serene location. As the photographer I almost always bring a blanket, treats for the little ones, and bug spray because….Alabama.

Right when I met everyone in person, the kiddos began playing in the gravel parking lot, kicking up dust and wiping it on their clothes. Both parents naturally asked to them stop as we were about to take photos, but I always lean in to the chaos. I let the parents know that with children there will ALWAYS be some form of chaos. Always. I feel like this usually helps the parents relax and focus on the fun of interacting with their babes. Like I’ve said before, this is just one giant playdate, but in nicer clothes. I love the natural state of children- the dirt, the chosen treasures in nature, the giggles, the frowns, the sibling love and sibling battles. It’s all part of it!

When we call it a wrap, I love to ask if there is any other shot the family would like me to snag. Once everyone feels the good about all everything, I pass out treats with the parents’ approval, and we say our goodbyes. I love receiving messages like, “my husband actually had fun!” or “my little one adores you and can’t wait for our next session.” I love my clients and always enjoy seeing them! I let them know that they’ll receive their gallery with ALL of their images in a couple weeks. And that’s that! It is a super fun, super memorable time, and I love to be a part of it all!
